Mayor Bass Missed More Than Half of Recent LAHSA Meetings

Mayor Karen Bass missed 13 of 21 recent LAHSA Commission meetings, an absence rate that could trigger potential removal under the agency’s bylaws

Mayor Karen Bass has missed more than half of the meetings held by the L.A. Homeless Services Authority Commission since joining the board in late 2023, according to a review of meeting records by LAist.

Bass missed 13 of the 21 LAHSA Commission meetings held between mid-August 2025 and this month. Since she appointed herself to the board in 2023, she has been absent for 25 of 47 total meetings.

Under LAHSA’s bylaws, missing 13 of 21 meetings in a year is enough to trigger potential removal from the commission.

The record stands in contrast to comments Bass made at last week’s mayoral debate in Sherman Oaks, where she criticized challenger Nithya Raman’s attendance record on the City Council, telling her, “I believe you have missed several thousand votes because you don’t show up to work.” Bass also pointed to a committee meeting Raman had called and then missed, saying, “It was your last meeting, and you didn’t even show up.” Raman responded that her absences came while representing the city on outside boards. 

The LAHSA Commission sets policy and approves funding for the agency, including its roughly $500 million annual budget and its contracts with shelters and service providers across Los Angeles.

The Mayor’s Office told LAist that Bass has stayed informed on LAHSA’s work despite the absences.
