A 9-1-1 call led to a brief lockdown at a San Diego high school Monday, but police searched the campus and determined the report was unfounded.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the campus of Mt. Carmel High School at 9550 Carmel Mountain Road “has been deemed safe.”
Police said shortly after noon that officers were “investigating the source of the call,” and “students and staff are returning to their normal school-day activities.”
SDPD Officer Colin Steinbroner said at 8:57 a.m., officers were informed that someone called 9-1-1, saying “there was an armed person in a bathroom on campus.”
“Officers responded quickly to the call” and checked every classroom and building on the campus, he added.
No suspect had been identified as of Monday afternoon, Steinbroner said.
Just before 10 a.m., SDPD announced on social media that “significant police resources are on scene working to ensure the campus is safe while officers investigate the report,” and advised residents to avoid the area.
Sunset Hills Elementary and Black Mountain Middle School “were also placed into a secure campus as a precaution,” NBC7 reported. That level allows for normal class instruction with limited campus access.
