Irvine-based Masimo Corp., now a subsidiary of Danaher, today announced it received FDA 510(k) clearance for its Masimo Root patient monitor.
The platform has the ability to continuously monitor and trend oxygen delivery by combining Masimo’s cardiac output, hemoglobin and oxygen saturation monitoring technologies.
According to Masimo, monitoring oxygen delivery has been limited by the intermittent nature of hemoglobin measurements, which traditionally rely on periodic lab tests.
“Oxygen delivery is fundamental to understanding whether tissues are receiving the oxygen they need, particularly during major surgery and other periods of physiologic stress,” Dr. Basil Matta, chief medical officer of Masimo, said in a statement.
