North West is already building a music career at 13, but she is also thinking about something far more ordinary for her future. She wants a job at Starbucks.
In her new Dazed interview, West was asked what she would be doing if she were not an artist.
“What would I be? I still wanna work. I wanna work at, like, Starbucks next year,” she said. “I think I can next year ’cause I am gonna be 14, so … I think I can. I want to have a regular job, I guess.”
West, the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, also spoke openly about the pressures of being a teenager today and how her priorities differ from her peers’.
“Everyone’s in love with boys, vaping and doing all kinds of bad stuff,” she said. “All I want is blue hair and piercings.”
Her look is inspired by Japanese virtual pop idol Hatsune Miku and her electric blue ponytails have quickly become a defining part of her emerging aesthetic.
As she continues to shape her identity as an artist, West revealed the worst advice she has ever been given and why she ignored it.
“To start my career later. It’s like, nah, this is my hobby, this is what I like to do, this is what I wanna do with my life,” she said.
Many young artists are encouraged to wait, but West is already releasing music, performing at festivals and creating a clear artistic identity while also, apparently, craving the normalcy of having a job behind the counter.
