Wireless mobile service provider MobileX said it has received a “strategic investment” from telecommunications tycoon Charlie Ergen’s special purpose acquisition company CONX (OTC: CNXX).  The amount was not specified.

“This investment gives CONX a controlling interest in MobileX and injects new capital to accelerate the company’s next phase of growth,” MobileX said in a statement yesterday. Irvine-based MobileX currently has approximately 107,000 paid subscribers.

CONX yesterday asked the Federal Communications Commission for permission to transfer control of MobileX from  founder Peter Adderton to CONX Wireless Holdings.

Ergen is the founder, CEO and chairman of EchoStar, a holding company for his communications empire. He and CONX CEO Jason Kiser will join the MobileX board of directors.
