In late 2018—shortly after he was elected to his first term as California’s governor—Gavin Newsom doled out $3.7 million for a home in the suburban Sacramento city of Fair Oaks, about 15 miles from the State Capitol. Now, as he prepares to exit his post in January 2027 after two terms in office, he has put the Santa Barbara-inspired residence up for sale.

The San Francisco native—who has been splitting his time between Sacramento and Marin County, where he owns another home in the affluent unincorporated community of Kentfield, about 20 miles north of San Francisco—is asking $7.5 million for the 8.2-acre spread, around $3.8 million more than he paid. Matthew Hindy and Nick Sadek of Sotheby’s International Realty share the listing.

Set beyond a lengthy gated driveway in an exclusive enclave along the bluffs near the American River, the sprawling beige stucco and terracotta-roof structure offers seven bedrooms and a dozen bathrooms in roughly 12,600 square feet across multiple levels.

A gallery-like entry foyer beneath a high ceiling with rough-hewn wood beams leads to a fireside living area that has sliding glass doors opening out to an expansive patio. A wet bar flows to a formal dining room, while a bright, white kitchen has an eat-in island and a butler’s pantry. A nearby breakfast nook connects to a family room.

Elsewhere are a bookshelf-lined study, game room, gym, 5,000-bottle wine cellar, and separate guest casita with its own kitchen, along with a lushly landscaped backyard featuring a swimming pool and tennis court.

Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who paid $9.1 million in 2024 for their Marin County home, are now transitioning back to the Bay Area as speculation grows that the outgoing governor will launch a run for president in 2028.
