The CIF San Diego Section high school varsity football playoffs got underway Nov. 7 for La Jolla’s three teams, and two will move on to play another day.

The eighth-seeded Bishop’s Knights advanced to the second round of the Division III tournament by shutting out No. 9 Montgomery of San Diego 28-0 at University City High School.

Bishop’s (8-3) next travels to take on top seed Central Union of El Centro (8-2) at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14. The Spartans had a first-round bye.

Montgomery finished the season 6-5.

In Division II, La Jolla High’s season ended in stunning fashion with a 42-0 beating at home by 12th-seeded Scripps Ranch.

The fifth-ranked Vikings finished 6-5 overall, while the Falcons improved to 6-5 and moved on to the second round.

In Division IV, 10th seed La Jolla Country Day went on the road and routed No. 7 Coronado 35-14.

Torreys quarterback Jett Astephen threw three touchdown passes, and Quentin Cesaire returned an interception for a TD.

The Torreys (5-6) now will visit No. 2 El Capitan of Lakeside at 7 p.m. Nov. 14. The Vaqueros (4-6) had a first-round bye and will enter the contest on a four-game losing streak, all against other Grossmont-Hills League teams.

Coronado ended the season 6-4. ♦
