Fresno State and its multimedia rights partner Bulldog Sports Enterprises finalized its radio broadcast team on Wednesday with the addition of former Bulldogs and NFL offensive lineman Kenny Wiggins as a sideline analyst.
Wiggins will join play-by-play announcer Paul Loeffler and color analyst Pat Hill when the Bulldogs open the season on Sept. 4 at USC. He has worked games in a fill-in role in the past, and said he is looking forward to bringing a unique perspective to broadcasts, as a former offensive lineman.
“It’s a different perspective,” Wiggins said. “What I look for when I watch film will be out there and coach Hill is really great at going back and forth with me in that aspect, what I saw there versus what he saw, and Paul is the mastermind behind it all.
“It’ll be fun to share my knowledge and expertise with people, and a peek into how intense and how in-depth some of that stuff goes.”
Wiggins played for Hill and the Bulldogs from 2006 to 2010, and signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers in 2011. He had practice squad stints with the 49ers and Baltimore Ravens before signing with the San Diego Chargers in 2013, and went on to play in 79 games with 38 starts in seven NFL seasons.
Wiggins replaces former Bulldogs’ safety Cameron Worrell, who worked the Fresno State football broadcasts for the past 13 years.
“Listening to Bill Woodward’s golden voice over the years, I always appreciated how former ‘Dogs like Jon Anabo, Mark Barsotti, Vince Wesson and Jordan Christensen helped us understand the game better,” Loeffler said.
“I’ve learned along with our listeners from Pat Hill and Cam Worrell for the last decade, and I know Kenny’s expertise and engaging personality will add to that legacy. Just like Cam, Kenny’s time at Fresno State helped him go from undrafted free agent to a long NFL career, and his example is a great one for current Bulldogs to follow. I know the Red Wave will love getting to know Kenny better as we launch into the Pac-12 era of Bulldog football.”
