OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – A man from White Lake drowned, and a man from Taylor was injured after a boat crash in Oakland County.
The crash happened Tuesday, just before 2:30 p.m. on Oxbow Lake.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, two men were on a boat traveling at a high rate of speed when the boat got airborne and crashed.
The boat then landed on its side and sank in about 50 feet of water.
The driver of the boat was identified by police as 71-year-old Kirk Magnuson of White Lake. Police say he went into the water with the boat and did not resurface.
Another person on the boat was a 56-year-old man from Taylor. Police say a nearby pontoon was able to come by and pull him from the water. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
Neither man was wearing life jackets.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office does not believe alcohol played a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
