A police pursuit through northeast Los Angeles came to an abrupt stop Tuesday night after the fleeing suspect crashed into an uninvolved driver’s car. The incident was all caught on video thanks to ABC 7.
Huntington Park police were pursuing a silver Ford Focus as it traveled through several northeast LA neighborhoods. The chase ended when the suspect entered cross traffic and t-boned another car at the intersection of Avenue 53 and Figueroa Street.
Officers quickly pulled the suspect out of the Ford Focus and took him into custody. The crash was hard enough to cause airbags to deploy in the uninvolved driver’s car.
It was also reported that first responders showed up to the scene to check on the suspect and the woman driving the vehicle that had been t-boned. Neither she nor the suspect appeared to suffer any serious injuries.
The Chase Ended Dangerously Close to Gas Pumps
After t-boning the other vehicle, the suspect’s Ford Focus continued moving toward a nearby gas station. The car came within just a few feet of a gas pump before finally coming to a stop.
Considering how fast the suspect’s car was moving and the collision it caused, the crash could have ended with far more damage. Both drivers appeared to be okay after the vehicles came to a stop.
The woman in the other vehicle appeared to have avoided the worst of the impact. The collision struck the front portion of her car; if it had hit the driver’s door, it could have caused major injuries.
Police Haven’t Said What Started the Pursuit
Details regarding what started the chase haven’t been revealed yet. It’s still unclear what the suspect was originally doing to warrant a chase this fast.
Police haven’t publicly identified the suspect either, and no charges have been announced as a result of the pursuit or the crash. It’s also not known whether the Focus was reported stolen or if the driver was already known to police before the chase began.
Reactions to the Chase
A commenter felt relieved that the car hit the front of her vehicle rather than the driver’s door. Someone else said the frantic chase seemed like someone rushing home, joking that it appeared as if the suspect wanted to get home quickly to play Grand Theft Auto.
