Triple digit temperatures returned on Sunday to the Valley… and like that least favorite neighbor of yours who invites themself to your BBQ, they’ll be sticking around for a while. There’s a chance we could finish the month of August with nothing but triple digit high temperatures.

High temperatures on Saturday only reached the upper 90’s, but triple digits were back on Sunday. Merced and Madera both saw a high of 100, while Fresno and Hanford topped out at 101. And that’s just the beginning of this latest round of heat – we can expect high temperatures for the rest of this week between 100 and 105.

Above: El Nino is coming. That’s not a guarantee of a wet winter, but other signals are now showing that make it look like we may see a soggy start to 2027.

That won’t break any records – but it’s still hot. There’s a Heat Advisory in effect through Wednesday.

We’ve already had 16 days of Triple Digit heat this month in Fresno. If we hit that for the last 8 days of August, we’ll end up at: 24. Which is Fresno’s record for most days of 100 heat in August. That’s definitely not a record we’d like to tie – but Mother Nature is in charge. It’ll be close this weekend and next Monday, as all three of those days will see highs near 100… although 99 is a possibility, too.

Fingers crossed that September starts a little cooler.

And don’t forget about the almost total Lunar Eclipse this Thursday evening! It starts pretty much right at Moonrise, which will be around 7:30 pm. It will peak at 9:13 pm, when the Moon will be 96% eclipsed by the shadow of the Earth… and it’ll end shortly before 11 pm. Meteor showers are difficult for us to see because of the light and air pollution, but a lunar eclipse will be easy to see. And it’s early in the evening, so you don’t have to stay up super late!
