Officers arrested a man who reportedly swung a sword at two people and threatened to kill them in a home in Sacramento’s Meadowview neighborhood.
The Sacramento Police Department, in a social media post Thursday, announced the arrest that occurred last weekend. The department also shared photos of an armored vehicle outside the home, where the suspect was holed up for several hours before he was taken into custody.
The incident was reported last Friday as a suspect who was armed with a sword and threatening others at the home in the 200 block of Hemford Circle in the residential neighborhood a few blocks south of Meadowview Road and west of 24th Street.
Police said officers learned the suspect had swung the sword at two people and threatened to kill them, but there were no injuries.
The Hemford Circle home was evacuated, and officers tried to communicate with the suspect to deescalate the situation, according to the Police Department. The suspect refused to come out of the home.
Police said officers learned the suspect also had access to a gun in the home. The department’s crisis negotiators and SWAT team were called to the scene.
For several hours, the negotiators worked to safely resolve the incident, police said.
SWAT officers used tactics and equipment to find out where the suspect was in the house, police said, and the suspect was eventually taken into custody. The Police Department did not release further details about how the suspect was taken into custody.
Police said officers found and recovered a sword and a gun at the home. The Police Department did not release the arrested suspect’s name.
