Rapper J. Cole’s two Oakland Arena concerts this weekend remain scheduled to proceed as of Friday morning. The update follows the cancelation of his Sacramento show Thursday after a member of his touring crew died in a highway crash.
As of Friday morning, Cole’s Aug. 29 and 30 performances at Oakland Arena were still listed as going forward on both Ticketmaster and venue websites. The shows are the next stops on his The Fall-Off World Tour.
The Aug. 27 concert at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento was canceled hours before showtime after a crew member driving a big rig carrying tour equipment died in a crash on Interstate 5 in Yolo County near Woodland. It occurs just south of where I-5 splits off from I-505
CBS Sacramento identified the driver as Jarlath Parkinson, 66, of Jackson, South Carolina. California Highway Patrol officials told the station that the truck overturned shortly after 6 a.m. while traveling south on I-5 and carrying equipment from Cole’s Aug. 25 concert in Seattle to Sacramento. No other vehicles were involved.
Authorities said the truck drifted onto the shoulder before the driver attempted to return to the roadway and lost control. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
It was not immediately clear whether the Sacramento date would be rescheduled, and Live Nation said tickets would be refunded automatically.
Cole is touring behind The Fall-Off, his seventh album. The Oakland dates mark his first Bay Area performances in five years. He last performed at Oakland Arena in 2021, with 21 Savage.
