1 dead, 3 hurt, including baby, after van crashes into tree in Arden-Arcade
A man died and three others, including an infant, were hurt after a van crashed into a tree in the Arden-Arcade area, according to officials.
Sacramento Metro Fire said crews responded to a reported crash before 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the 3000 block of Auburn Boulevard. When crews arrived, they found a van had collided with a tree.
People inside the van, three adults and a baby, were trapped and had to be pulled out of the van by firefighters, officials said.
On Thursday, California Highway Patrol said a man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three passengers, a woman in her 30s, a driver in his 40s and a 6-month-old baby, were taken to the hospital. CHP said the woman has moderate injuries, the baby has minor injuries and the driver complained of pain.
It’s unknown what the relation is between all the crash victims.
California Highway Patrol said the driver possibly fell asleep while traveling eastbound on Auburn Boulevard, west of Morse Avenue. CHP added that the vehicle traveled off the roadway and collided with a tree.
Richard Hudson, a witness, described his efforts to help one of the victims before emergency crews arrived.
“I pulled one of the doors open, saw a lady pinned by her legs that was upside down, so I tried to hold her up,” Hudson said. “Her face was in the paint in the vehicle; it was full of paint. I just wanted to make sure she could breathe, so I lifted her up till first responders arrived.”
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
