San Francisco police and sheriff’s deputies made 58 arrests during a one-day operation this week targeting drug markets in the city.
Officers also seized over 122 grams of narcotics, which is roughly equivalent to the weight of a standard bar of soap, and hundreds of dollars in cash, police said.
The Wednesday operation was coordinated by the Drug Market Agency Coordination Center, a task force that combines city law enforcement agencies like the San Francisco Police Department and San Francisco Sheriff’s Office to tackle open-air drug markets.
Of the 58 individuals arrested, 54 individuals had arrest warrants, including 12 individuals taken into custody by the SFPD Fugitive Recovery Enforcement Team, which focuses on tracking down individuals with active arrest warrants, according to police.
Police say the operation primarily took place on the Market Street corridor and in the city’s South of Market and Tenderloin neighborhoods.
The arrests are part of a larger departmental initiative to prioritize breaking up open-air drug markets in the city. San Francisco launched DMACC in May 2023 to target open-air drug markets and narcotics sales. In July, police made 76 arrests during a similar one-day operation.
