Disneyland Resort celebrated its hometown with character appearances, complimentary treats, a school field day, and a community event that brought some of the park’s most recognizable experiences beyond its gates.
Disneyland Resort may be known as the Happiest Place on Earth, but on August 27, the resort worked to make its surrounding hometown a little happier, too. The Happiest Day in Anaheim brought Disney characters, activities, treats, and surprises to thousands of local residents through a series of events held across the city.
The celebration followed Disneyland Resort’s 70 Happiest Hours in Anaheim initiative, a three-day community event held in recognition of the resort’s 70th anniversary in 2025. This year’s festivities continued that focus on Anaheim, where Disneyland has operated since opening its gates in 1955.
Disney Surprised More Than 2,000 Anaheim Residents
The celebration started well before August 27. Throughout the month, Disney VoluntEARS made surprise stops at community centers and events across Anaheim, reaching more than 2,000 residents.

The visits included stops at locations such as Oak Canyon Nature Center, where children were attending summer camp, and the YMCA Sports Complex. Disney VoluntEARS handed out special surprises, including bubble wands, Mickey Mouse plush toys, and Minnie Mouse ears.
These smaller events helped build excitement ahead of the Happiest Day in Anaheim, which featured larger celebrations designed for different groups throughout the community.
Anaheim Seniors Enjoyed a Disney Celebration
The August 27 festivities began at the Ponderosa Family Resource Center, where more than 125 senior citizens were treated to a morning filled with Disney-inspired activities.
The event started with a yoga session led by instructors from Tenaya Stone Spa, located at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Afterward, attendees participated in Disney Bingo, made crafts with Disney VoluntEARS, danced to Disney songs from across the decades, and posed for photos in front of Disneyland Resort backdrops.
Disneyland Resort extended the experience beyond the Ponderosa Family Resource Center by providing supplies to four libraries and two additional senior communities. Those locations could then host Disney-themed celebrations of their own.
Disney VoluntEARS Hosted a Field Day for Anaheim Students
At Danbrook Elementary School, more than 400 students across seven grade levels participated in a Disney-inspired field day organized with help from Disney VoluntEARS.
The school was divided into four themed activity areas drawing inspiration from different parts of Disneyland Resort. Students danced during the Toontown Dance-Stravaganza, competed in the Pixar Pier Relay Rally, and took part in the New Orleans Square Swashbuckling Soiree. They also had an opportunity to pose for photos with Mickey Mouse.
At the end of the event, every student received a Disney swag bag containing surprises such as Mickey ears and a Mickey-shaped crispy treat.
Disneyland Resort also recognized the school’s 75 teachers and staff members. Each employee received two complimentary Disneyland Resort tickets, allowing them to visit the theme parks with a guest.
Main Street, U.S.A., Came to Center Greens Park
The day’s largest event brought the atmosphere of Main Street, U.S.A., directly into the Anaheim community. More than 3,000 residents attended Main Street on Your Street at Center Greens Park, where Disney recreated some of the entertainment, food, and visual touches associated with Disneyland’s iconic entrance land.
Mary Poppins and the Pearly Band performed for attendees, while the Disneyland Resort Fire Engine was displayed at the event. Families could also play carnival-style games, collect Mickey balloons, create personalized paper versions of Main Street windows, and take photos with backdrops featuring Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Disneyland Resort entrance marquee.

Naturally, the event also included plenty of classic theme park food. Residents received complimentary hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, and Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bars.
Disney characters helped make the evening feel even more like a visit to the parks. Miguel from Coco and Mirabel from Encanto greeted guests, while Mickey Mouse and several of his friends appeared on the main stage for a performance featuring classic Disney music.
Disneyland Resort Continues Its Anaheim Community Support
The Happiest Day in Anaheim is the latest example of Disneyland Resort’s longstanding relationship with the city it has called home for more than 70 years.
Disneyland supports organizations and families throughout Anaheim and Orange County through volunteer programs, community experiences, and financial and in-kind contributions. According to Disney, those donations total tens of millions of dollars annually.
While the Happiest Day in Anaheim lasted for only one day, its events reached residents of all ages—from elementary school students and summer campers to teachers and seniors. And for thousands of neighbors who attended Main Street on Your Street, Disneyland brought a small piece of the park directly to them.
