A man who was identified as a suspect in the homicide of a woman found last year in a Sacramento home has since died by suicide, police officials announced Friday.
Maria Candelaria Mota-Pinedo, 50, of Sacramento, was the victim in last year’s homicide, according to Sacramento County Coroner’s Office records.
Officers found Mota-Pinedo wounded and unresponsive shortly after 3:45 p.m. July 6, 2025, at the home in the 7600 block of Center Parkway just south of Tangerine Avenue in Sacramento’s Parkway neighborhood.
She was found with “apparent traumatic injuries,” according to the Sacramento Police Department. Medics arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene.
The Police Department has not released any details about the circumstances leading up to the woman’s death.
Officer Allison Smith, a police spokesperson, confirmed at the time that the woman was not a victim in a shooting or a stabbing. The Police Department did not release any other details about the manner of the woman’s death.
On Friday afternoon, the Police Department announced that homicide detectives had identified a suspect in Mota-Pinedo’s death. Earlier this month, the detectives were notified that the homicide suspect, who had evaded arrest, had died by suicide.
Smith said the suspect was 50 years old at the time of the homicide. The police spokesperson said the suspect died in Mexico, but Smith did not know when the suspect died.
