A 24-year-old motorist died Sunday after he was ejected from his vehicle in an early-morning crash in northern Oakland County, deputies said.
The driver was identified as Jeffrey Alejandro Euceda-Cruz of Pontiac, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a news release, Euceda-Cruz was driving his 2010 Nissan GT-R south on Dixie Highway, south of Maybee Road, in Independence Township about 2 a.m. when he lost control. The Nissan crossed the northbound lanes before striking a curb, rolling over and throwing Euceda-Cruz.
Deputies and personnel from the Independence Township Fire Department responded to the crash and attempted to render aid, but Euceda-Cruz was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of Euceda-Cruz. An autopsy has been scheduled.
Investigators determined Euceda-Cruz was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Authorities said they are still investing whether alcohol use contributed to the crash, however, excessive speed is believed to have played a role in the deadly incident.
Deputies continue to investigate why the driver lost control of his vehicle.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit provided technical assistance with mapping and documenting the crash scene. The Michigan Department of Transportation Safety Service Patrol assisted with traffic control.
