A Michigan State Police trooper discovered weapons and an open bottle of alcohol inside of a vehicle he had pulled over speeding in northern Oakland County, according to authorities.
According to a news release, the incident took place on Aug. 27 on Interstate 75 near Sashabaw Road in Independence Township when the trooper was conducting targeted operating while impaired enforcement operations.
The trooper stopped a driver after witnessing him traveling 86 mph in a 70 mph zone and making “drastic” lane changes.
During the investigation, the driver “showed signs of impairment and was arrested for OWI,” troopers said. Police conducting an inventory of the car’s contents found an open bottle of vodka and two loaded handguns.
“The driver did not have a CPL and had three prior OWI convictions,” troopers said.
The driver, who was not identified, was arrested for operating while impaired third offense, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and having open intoxicants inside a vehicle. Troopers said the charges were being reviewed by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
State police praised the trooper’s efforts for getting an impaired driver and two loaded handguns off the road.
