Seven weeks ago, the Padres called up Luis Rengifo to replace the injured Samad Taylor. On Sunday, the two are again switching places, as Taylor was activated from the injured list to replace Rengifo, who was carted off the field a day earlier with a right knee sprain.

That’s not all, as the Padres are finally giving Gavin Sheets some time off his bothersome left foot (plantar fasciitis) as Sung-Mun Song has been recalled.

Sunday’s first pitch is at 10:40 a.m. on Padres.TV.

Of the two, Song will be in Sunday’s lineup as Manny Machado gets a DH day.

The switch-hitting Rengifo was hitting .291/.375/.409 with four homers and 17 RBIs in 38 games before sustaining his knee injury on Saturday.

Taylor was hitting .233/.343/.367 in nine rehab games after going on the injured list on July 8. He was hitting .330/.410/.398 with a homer, 11 RBIs and six steals in 26 games with the Padres before sustaining his oblique injury.

Song was 1-for-14 with a walk and two strikeouts in three games since he was sent to El Paso. He was hitting .202/.305/.263 with one homer, 15 RBIs and 12 steals 62 games in the majors.

Sheets’ 16 homers are three shy of the career high he set last year, but he’s hitting .211/.313/.388 on the season after hitting .183/.299/.296 over his last 81 games.

He had predominantly served as the DH in recent weeks, as he had just three starts in the outfield in August (.186/.314/.326).

With the Diamondbacks splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, the Padres and Arizona are tied — via a .529 winning percentage — for the NL’s third wild-card spot.

Arizona is off Sunday before hosting the Phillies for a three-game set that begins Monday.

The Padres’ playoff odds (53%) currently have an edge on the Diamondbacks’ (46.4%), according to FanGraphs.com.

Padres LHP Robbie Ray (11-7, 3.21 ERA)  

He’s 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA, 15 strikeouts and 13 walks in four starts (20 ⅓ IP) since joining the Padres after the trade deadline. Ray has a 3.21 ERA in 61⅔ career innings against the Rays, including a loss in quality start (6⅓ IP, 3 ER) earlier this year with the Giants.

Rays RHP Drew Rasmussen (14-5, 2.95 ERA)  

He’s been an All-Star each of the last two years (24-10, 2.85 ERA) and is 10 innings from passing last year’s career-high innings total (150 IP).
