OAKLANDAn man was was taken into custody near Manzanita Park in Oakland after threatening to kill a woman, shooting at police officers and running away, authorities said.
Sunday at 10:30 a.m., the Oakland Police Department received multiple calls of a man threatening to kill a woman near Manzanita Park. When police responded to the incident, the man began shooting at the officers. They shot back, after which the man fled into the neighborhood.
Officers then brought the woman to safety, set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and ordered nearby residents to shelter in place.
At 2:58 p.m., Oakland Police posted on X that they had taken the man into custody.

Eyewitnesses near the scene noted a housefire in the same area, though neither the Oakland Fire Department and Oakland Police Department immediately responded to requests to comment and could not confirm whether the fire and the incident were related.
