Take a musical journey from Mozart to Ravel, then treat yourself to excellent cake at the South Pasadena Restoration Concerts season opener on Sunday, September 13, at 4:00 pm. The concert will be held in the South Pasadena Library Community Room.

The season opener will feature the New Hollywood String Quartet, the Restoration Concerts’ Quartet in Residence, performing in the South Pasadena Library Community Room at 1115 El Centro St. The program will travel from Mozart’s classical elegance in *String Quartet in G*, to the romantic intimacy of Schubert’s *String Quartet in E-flat Major*, and finally to the impressionist color of Ravel’s *String Quartet in F Major*.

The setting is as distinctive as the music. Originally built as a library with a Carnegie grant, the South Pasadena Library Community Room is known for its excellent musical acoustics, an ideal venue for the detailed textures and expressive range of a string quartet.

Following the concert, audience members will be invited to a cake reception celebrating 30 years of bringing quality, affordable chamber music to the community.

The New Hollywood String Quartet made its debut in Los Angeles on January 9, 2001, and has performed to critical acclaim ever since. The quartet’s members—Tereza Stanislav and Rafael Rishik on violin, Robert Brophy on viola, and Andrew Shulman on cello—are premiere performers of their generation and well-known guests at prestigious concert series throughout Los Angeles and surrounding communities.

Based in Los Angeles, the musicians have recorded hundreds of film scores, are members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and bring decades of chamber music experience to their performances. Inspired by the celebrated Hollywood String Quartet of more than half a century ago, the New Hollywood String Quartet continues that tradition with its own distinctive artistry.

Tickets will be available at the door for $25 or online through the Friends’ official site for $26.

Restoration Concerts is a committee of the nonprofit Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library.
