BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — State Sen. Shannon Grove’s office said it secured nearly $2 million for a Safe Route to School project in Oildale and other local areas on Friday.
An announcement last week said warning beacons, signs and ADA ramps will be installed at several uncontrolled multi-lane crosswalks in Oildale.
“Parents in Oildale should not have to worry that their kids can’t get to school safely,” Grove stated. “Every child deserves a safe walk to the classroom, whether that is a first-grader holding a parent’s hand or a student crossing a busy street on their own. This $1.8 million investment will install warning beacons, better signs, and ADA ramps at uncontrolled multi-lane crosswalks so children and families can travel more safely.”
The announcement also highlighted other projects and priorities, including a Highway 58 truck climbing lane in Tehachapi described as a 3.5-mile safety and commerce project Grove has worked on with Caltrans, Kern COG and local partners.
Additional Highway 58 safety improvements were also cited at the California City Boulevard interchange following fatal crashes, including a formal request to Caltrans to add infrastructure at that crossing.
The announcement also pointed to water infrastructure efforts for Kern and the Valley, including support for Friant-Kern Canal repairs and state budget requests for the Indian Wells Valley interconnection pipeline serving the Ridgecrest area.
