Two suspects were recently arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail for illegally trapping deer, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced Monday.
The suspects allegedly captured at least three deer using snare traps in the Monterey area. One of the deer was a buck, which the suspects admitted to killing with “knives and sticks,” the CDFW said.
“Wildlife officers began monitoring the area at night to identify and catch the suspects in the act,” CDFW said.

Wildlife officers allegedly caught the suspects servicing the illegal traps on July 13, during the second night of the investigation. Officers found the suspects in possession of knives, antlers, four snares and deer meat. The items were seized as evidence.
“The suspects were charged with numerous wildlife crimes, including unlawful method of take, hunting without a license, take of deer using a trap and hunter trespassing,” CDFW said.
