Police are looking for a group of people connected to a deadly shooting that killed one man in Ocean Beach.

It happened at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to San Diego Police, the shooting happened in an area just South of the Ocean Beach Pier.

While NBC 7 crews were there, they saw investigators were checking out the area.

“Whenever we came in about midnight, one o’clock in the morning, there was a lot of really loud sirens, a lot of emergency vehicles, this whole area was and stayed taped off for a long time,” Bethany Howard said.

Howard and her family are visiting from Arizona.

They were planning to vacation and relax in Ocean Beach, near the pier, but instead, they found part of the shoreline blocked off by police tape.

“Then, less than five minutes away there’s a man losing his life unfortunately,” Howard said.

According to San Diego Police, officers responded to a report about a shooting near the Ocean Beach Pier.

When officers arrived, they found a man in his thirties with gunshot wounds.

“I’ve had a lot of recent losses in my family, and I know the heartbreak that can happen and the stark shock,” Howard said.

Investigators said a group of at least four people in their late twenties were hanging out in the Pier’s parking lot before heading to the shoreline.

They said after the gunshots, the group returned to the lot, got into two cars, and drove away east on Newport Avenue.

The cars were described as a white sedan and a blue or grey SUV.

Police said on of the vehicles may have hit another car as it drove away.

Carmen Flores said hearing about this so close to home is terrifying.

“Hearing about it makes me fear for my safety and the safety of the kids when I take them out for a walk,” Flores said.

Howard agrees.

“It’s scary to not know, you know, where they went. You know, who you’re walking past when you’re out here. You see kids playing and you wonder, who’s the people I’m walking by?” Howard said.

She said her heart goes out to the family of the victim.

“I really hope the family knows that there’s a lot of people around them who are loving them, rooting for them, praying for them, and I hope they know they’re not alone,” she said.
