Three people were injured in a shooting Tuesday in Long Beach that prompted a police pursuit to downtown Los Angeles and an officer-involved shooting.
Officers responded to a targeted shooting around 12:24 a.m. in the 200 block of Aquarium Way, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement.
Two people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and another victim was treated at the scene, police said.
The suspect fled in their vehicle after being identified by officers near the area of Burnett Street and Pacific Avenue, according to the LBPD.
The suspect then fired shots at Long Beach police officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred while the driver was being pursued on the northbound Long Beach (710) freeway, police said.
The suspect then collided into a pole in downtown Los Angeles, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for injuries related to the collision, the LBPD said.
No officers nor the suspect were struck by gunfire, and the firearm was recovered from the scene, authorities said.
All lanes of the northbound 710 were closed at Willow Street at the LBPD’s request and remained so as the morning commute got under way.
The connectors from the San Diego (405) and Gardena (91) freeways were also closed and a SigAlert was issued.
