Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke has agreed to buy the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno, expanding his sports holding company into Major League Baseball.
The transaction is through Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, and Arsenal. Kroenke also owns the Rams and developed SoFi Stadium and the surrounding Hollywood Park site in Inglewood.
The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to approval by Major League Baseball. Financial terms were not publicly disclosed, though the sale was reportedly “more than the $3.9 billion sale price for the Padres.” according to the LA Times. Forbes valued the Angels at 2.8 billion dollars in March.
“The Angels Organization is pleased to announce this transaction with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment,” owner Arte Moreno said in a statement. “The Moreno Family has been honored to steward the Angels for 23 years and we believe with KSE’s experience and success they are the best next owner for the franchise. The Angels Organization looks forward to continuing its commitment to the fans, our employees, the players and our business partners.”
“The Angels are a storied franchise anchored in a great market,” KSE owner and chairman Stan Kroenke said in a statement. “We look forward to an exciting future with the Angels organization.”
Kroenke-affiliated entities own the Los Angeles Rams and developed SoFi Stadium along with the 300-acre Hollywood Park district in Inglewood. KSE also owns the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, and Arsenal.
Moreno became Major League Baseball’s first Latino owner when he purchased the team following its 2002 World Series championship. The team won five American League West titles between 2004 and 2009, but later endured an 11-season playoff drought through 2026.
