The U.S. Tennis Association Southern California invited the Long Beach community to enjoy an afternoon of tennis and family fun this past weekend.
The section hosted a free family day and open-air watch party of the U.S. Open on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the El Dorado Tennis & Pickleball Center. The community event featured free on-court tennis instruction, live music, games, face painting, giveaways, food and a broadcast of the matches.

“We’re super excited to be here at El Dorado Park, having the community come out and play tennis, free food, and a free U.S. Open opening night back in New York City,” Trevor Kronemann, executive director of USTA Southern California, said on Sunday. “The idea here is to spread the word about the U.S. Open and all the great things that are happening at the USTA.”
USTA Southern California was selected as one of 11 USTA sections nationwide to host an official celebration honoring the final grand slam of the season, according to a press release.
“Hosting an official U.S. Open celebration here with USTA Southern California in Long Beach is an honor for our facility,” Mitch Bridge, general manager of the El Dorado Tennis & Pickleball Center, said in a statement. “El Dorado is home to many tennis enthusiasts year-round, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome the community for a day filled with tennis instruction and family fun.”
