A Long Beach shooting suspect who also opened fire on officers during a pursuit on the 710 Freeway, causing an hourslong closure, eventually crashed in downtown Los Angeles early Tuesday morning, police said.
Police initially responded to a shooting report involving multiple victims in the 200 block of Aquarium Way in Long Beach at about 12:30 a.m., the Long Beach Police Department stated in a news release.
When officers arrived, they found three victims. Two were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a third was treated at the scene.

A short time later, officers identified the suspect vehicle in the area of West Burnett Street and Pacific Avenue and attempted to stop the male driver, police said.
The suspect fled, leading officers on a pursuit on the northbound 710 Freeway.
“During the pursuit, while on the northbound 710 Freeway, the suspect fired shots towards officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” police said.
Neither the suspect nor any officers were struck by the gunfire. The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into a pole at the intersection of East 11th Street and South Santa Fe Avenue in downtown Los Angeles.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody following the use of 40MM less-lethal force, police said. He was then transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
Officers recovered a firearm from the scene and posted a picture of the weapon in its news release.

The investigation into the shooting left the northbound lanes of the 710 Freeway closed at Long Beach Boulevard for several hours, causing massive delays during the morning commute. The freeway eventually reopened around 8:30 a.m.
The Police Department said that the motive for the initial shooting remains under investigation.
