FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Part of Downtown Fresno is blocked early Tuesday morning after an officer-involved shooting.

The Fresno Police Department says officers first responded to a shot-spotter call just before 3 AM near Huntington Boulevard and Orchard Avenue.
When officers arrived, they saw a man with a gun and started to walk up to him.
The man ran away as officer approached and began shooting.

Two officers fired back, hitting the man.
The man is in his 40s and is on parole with a long criminal history and is known to officers.
He was taken to the hospital for surgery and is currently in critical condition.
No officers were injured.

Orchard Avenue between R St and the HWY 41 overpass will be closed for several hours.
