A San Francisco high school has lost its entire varsity baseball coaching staff and must forfeit some games following a racial incident.
The San Francisco Unified School District did not elaborate on what happened, but the San Francisco Chronicle reported it involved alleged race-based taunting by Lowell High School varsity players during a game in May against Lincoln High School.
Following an investigation by the school district, the varsity coaching staff at Lowell has been removed and the school will forfeit regular season games against three schools, including Lincoln.
In a statement, the district said, “…there is no place for racism, discrimination, or racialized harm in the Lowell community or anywhere in SFUSD.”
Parents said it’s difficult to know if the district made the right call because it didn’t release enough details about the incident.
