MOAB, Utah (KUTV) — A semi-truck driver stopped for a speeding violation in Moab was taken into custody in connection with a homicide investigation out of California.
Chamkaur Singh, 30, was stopped near 500 West on Highway 191 on Tuesday afternoon for traveling 20 miles over the speed limit, according to the Moab City Police Chief Lex Bell.
During the traffic stop, a Moab Police officer conducted a records check and reportedly found a homicide-vehicular manslaughter warrant for Singh’s arrest issued by California Highway Patrol in April.

“Our officers learned that there were actually four people killed in the incident that resulted in Singh being a fugitive, which also involved a firearm, though the specifics are not known,” Chief Bell said in a statement.
After confirming the warrant and suspect with California Highway Patrol, Singh was safely taken into custody without incident and booked into the Grand County Jail on the California warrant.
Officers also issued a citation for speeding and impounded the semi-truck Singh was driving.
“This is a great reminder of how dangerous and unpredictable traffic stops can be, and a testament to the professionalism and diligence shown by our officers, day in and day out,” said Bell.
