BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A woman accused of vandalizing the U.S. flag at the entrance to Hart Park is seeking mental health diversion, according to court records.
Crystal Aguilar has a hearing scheduled Dec. 4 to determine her eligibility for the diversion program.
If she’s allowed into and successfully completes the program — and stays out of trouble — the case would be dismissed
Aguilar, 25, is charged with a felony count of resisting arrest, two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, vandalism and battery on a peace officer.
Park rangers encountered Aguilar around 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 6. She had removed the U.S. flag at Hart Park and raised the Mexican flag in its place, according to sheriff’s officials.
The sheriff’s office released a video on YouTube that captured a portion of the incident and her arrest, during which she made threats to kill rangers and their families.
