SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — A San Jose bakery was burglarized over the weekend, marking the second time the owners have been targeted in less than a month.
Security video shows a thief breaking into the Celtic Tea Shoppe just after 6 a.m. Sunday at Branham Plaza in San Jose’s Pinehurst neighborhood.
“It’s tough as a mom-and-pop shop. We make everything ourselves,” owner Dean Scott said.
Dean and his wife, Kristen, opened the shoppe in 2006. What started as a candy shop has grown into a bakery specializing in Scottish and Irish treats.
“We’re making food that feeds the heart, soul and stomach,” Kristen said.
But in nearly 20 years of business, the couple says they have dealt with six break-ins.
Sunday’s burglary was the second in less than a month. Security video also captured two people breaking into the business on Aug. 4.

Kristen said five other businesses in the plaza were also targeted.
In the two most recent break-ins, the thieves only got away with a toolbox, but the damage left behind has been costly.
“We got a bill for two broken glass doors. That is going to be minimum $800 each,” Kristen said.
Still, the Scotts say they are not letting a broken door break their spirit — or their business.
The couple was back to work baking Tuesday and hopes the community will come together to help identify those responsible.
“We’ve heard there has been an uptick in break-ins, car break-ins throughout the neighborhood. We just want people to come together and communicate to see if we can get to the bottom of it,” Dean said.
The Scotts are working with the plaza’s property manager on ways to prevent another break-in and are also in contact with the San Jose Police Department.
The couple said they are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.
