BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield police are warning residents to not share personal information with two men. They are reportedly collecting personal information from people at crash scenes for unknown purposes.
Police said two men, identified as 29-year-old Gianfranco Lopez Butron and 33-year-old Jean Pierre Jara Lopez, would arrive at the scenes of multiple crashes. The men would go up to those involved in the crash, ask questions, and try to get personal identifying information.

Police said, “They have stated they may be collecting the information for insurance purposes but have not provided further explanation.” When they were approached by authorities, they would leave the scene.
BPD said at this time, their purpose for collecting information remains unknown and that the incidents are under investigation.
“Due to concerns regarding the potential misuse of personal information, community members are encouraged to use caution and avoid providing identifying or insurance information to unauthorized individuals,” said police.
