Four people, including a father and his son, were killed Wednesday night in a two-vehicle crash in Madera County.
The crash happened at 8:39 p.m. at Road 9 and Avenue 21 between a GMC Sierra and a Honda CRV.
According to California Highway Patrol spokesperson Marcos Cisneros, the GMC was traveling east on Avenue 21, toward the intersection of Road 9. A Honda carrying five people entered the intersection on Road 9, while the other vehicle ran the stop sign, causing the crash.
Cisneros said the GMC failed to stop at the posted sign, entered the intersection, and crashed into the Honda. He added that there is no stop sign on Road 9.
Four people in the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as 42-year-old Pedro Chavez Garcia and his son, 13-year-old Pedro Chavez, who attended Weaver Middle School. The other two victims were 36-year-old Gerardo Ramirez Aguilar and 52-year-old Cayetano Beyza-Mendoza.
The GMC’s occupants had minor injuries.
Cisneros said it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
