Gloria Steinem recognized at California State Capitol | KCRA archives
Gloria Steinem, a celebrated feminist activist and author who became a leading voice in the U.S. women’s movement, has died at the age of 92.
Steinem was a fierce advocate for feminist causes, writing books about the women’s liberation movement, campaigning for politicians, working on federal legislation, and speaking out for social change over the course of seven decades.
A cause of death has not been announced.
In January 1987, Steinem was one of three women honored at the California State Capitol. Video from the KCRA archives shows her being recognized alongside Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker, known for writing “The Color Purple,” and Lillian Garland, who fought for legal protections for maternity leave.
