Calling all Marie Antoinette fans! Sofia Coppola and Kirsten Dunst are coming to Los Angeles for a very special celebration of the beloved 2006 film.

On Sunday, September 13, 2026, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will mark the movie’s 20th anniversary with a special screening of Marie Antoinette, featuring Coppola and Dunst in person. The film will be presented in 4K, giving fans the chance to experience the lavish Versailles-set drama on the big screen once again.

And the celebration doesn’t stop at the screening. Earlier that afternoon, Coppola will also appear at the Academy Museum Store alongside photographer Andrew Durham for a special signing of their new book, Making Marie Antoinette.

A new book celebrating the making of Marie Antoinette

Released to coincide with the film’s 20th anniversary, Making Marie Antoinette offers an intimate behind-the-scenes look at Coppola’s cult classic.

The book brings together hundreds of photographs taken by Andrew Durham while the movie was being made. Durham documented everything from actors between takes and in hair and makeup to the extraordinary sets, costumes, and daily life surrounding the production.

The book also includes an oral history of the film’s making by Keaton Bell, as well as a new conversation between Durham and Coppola about the movie and its enduring legacy.

The film remains one of Coppola’s most visually distinctive works, transporting audiences to Versailles through pastel-colored costumes, extravagant interiors, macarons, towering hairstyles, and a decidedly modern soundtrack.

The cast included Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette, alongside Jason Schwartzman, Rose Byrne, Marianne Faithfull, Rip Torn, and Molly Shannon.

When is the Marie Antoinette event in L.A.?

The book signing with Sofia Coppola and Andrew Durham takes place on Sunday, September 13, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

Each book-signing ticket includes a copy of Making Marie Antoinette, which Coppola will sign during the event. The signing requires a separate ticket and does not include admission to the museum galleries or the 6:30 p.m. screening.

Later that evening, fans can head into the theater for the 20th-anniversary screening of Marie Antoinette, with Coppola and Dunst appearing in person for a conversation surrounding the film.
