Meghan Markle included a never-before-seen photo of Prince Archie with Gloria Steinem in her tribute to the late activist
The snap, showing 7-year-old Archie as a toddler, was taken at Prince Harry and Meghan’s California home

Meghan Markle‘s tribute to Gloria Steinem included a never-before-seen photo of the feminist activist with Prince Archie.
The Duchess of Sussex, 45, shared three images to her personal Instagram page on Thursday, Sept. 3, following the news of Steinem’s death at age 92. While two of the pictures showed Meghan and Steinem together, a third featured Prince Archie, now 7. In the snap, taken at Meghan and Prince Harry‘s home in Montecito, California, Steinem leans over the back of a chair to put a hand on Archie as a toddler, standing in a white T-shirt and khaki pants. Archie’s face was covered with a white heart emoji, keeping with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s efforts to maintain their children’s privacy on social media.
In the caption, Meghan recalled some of her private times with Steinem: “Spending Thanksgiving with our family, introducing me to one of my best friends (forever the champion of female friendship), loving our children with her whole heart, counseling me during hard times and giving extraordinary advice and perspective with a cup of tea and an unrivaled cheekiness and wit.”

Meghan and Steinem first connected in 2020 and went on to work together on causes including voter participation and women’s equality. In 2023, Steinem presented Meghan with the Ms. Foundation’s Women of Vision Award at an awards evening in New York City.
Meghan wrote in her tribute, “Celebrating the life and legacy of my friend and mentor, Gloria Steinem, and also grateful to know that in these last few weeks and days she knew exactly how loved and admired she was. You all know her many accolades and the way in which she helped shape the world for women and all people – ‘we are linked, not ranked’ she would tell me, and the bracelet she gave me said exactly that. I still wear it with pride.”

“Publicly, we did interviews together, called young voters to encourage them to have their voices heard, attended award ceremonies, and brainstormed how to help this beautiful yet complicated world to become more equitable,” Meghan continued. “But privately, she was even better than you would imagine.”
The Duchess of Sussex also recalled her favorite story about “Glo.”
“A woman approached her in absolute awe and said she wanted to introduce her young daughter to her (though she was embarrassed to say the young girl may not know who she was),” she wrote. “Gloria replied: ‘It doesn’t matter if she knows who I am. What matters is that she knows who SHE is.’ “
“Rest in peace, and rest in pride. Look at what you’ve done for all of us. Thank you,” she concluded.
Meghan and Prince Harry, 41, recently moved back to the U.K. after spending six years in California in the wake of stepping back from their royal roles in 2020.
The family plans to make a private, non-royal residence in the U.K. their home base for an extended period, with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, 5, starting school in Britain this month. They will also maintain their home in California and vacation property in Portugal.
The couple is also not returning to royal roles.
For Meghan, part of the appeal is what Britain can offer their children. “Meghan feels very fortunate that they’re able to give Archie and Lilibet the opportunity to experience both worlds,” says a Montecito insider.
Meanwhile, a source says Harry “wants them to understand the world he grew up in and where their family comes from.”
