BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 13-year-old boy arrested in connection to a deadly shooting in east Bakersfield has been committed to a juvenile detention center for up to 36 weeks after admitting to charges of second-degree murder and assault with a gun, according to prosecutors.
Daniel Rios also was placed on probation until he’s 25 during a hearing Thursday in juvenile court, District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Daniela Gonzaga said.
Due to his age, Rios could not be transferred to adult court.
He could receive more time if he violates the terms of his probation — including in-custody offenses, Gonzaga said.
Rios and two other teens, Adrian Valencia and Kyle Montijo, were arrested and charged with murder and other crimes following a shooting in July on Crane Street, according to sheriff’s officials. The other teens’ cases were pending.
Eric Wesley Lancaster, 53, was declared dead at the scene.
Also shot was Lancaster’s father, who spoke with 17 News about the incident. He was wounded in the thigh.
