One last splash: Summer fades to fall on the Long Beach Peninsula

ILWACO — Labor Day weekend brought unseasonably warm temperatures and intermittent bouts of rain, an indicator of things to come as the swan song of summer fades to fall on the Long Beach Peninsula.
Families took to local beaches and campgrounds over Labor Day Weekend — the federal holiday honoring the American labor movement celebrated on the first Monday in September — for a final taste of summer leisure before returning to autumn school and work schedules.
The first official day of fall —Tuesday, Sept. 22 — will bring about new hours and work schedules for many local businesses, as the busier summer tourist season begins to slow.
