LOS ANGELES (Kyodo) — Shohei Ohtani was named the 2025 National League Silver Slugger Award winner for designated hitter Thursday following another outstanding season at the plate by the Los Angeles Dodgers’ two-way superstar.
The awards recognize the best offensive player at each position in both the American League and the NL, as voted by Major League Baseball managers and coaches.
Ohtani, coming off back-to-back World Series championships with the Dodgers, earned his third straight Silver Slugger Award and fourth overall, including his time with the AL’s Los Angeles Angels, surpassing three-time winner Ichiro Suzuki for most by a Japanese player.
The 31-year-old, who is expected to win his third straight MVP Award next week, did not match last year’s landmark 50-50 feat but nevertheless continued to break new ground this season.
Ohtani hit a career-high and Dodgers franchise-record 55 home runs to finish second in the NL, while batting .282 with 102 RBIs.
He led the league in slugging (.622), OPS (1.014), OPS+ (179) and total bases (380), while his MLB-high 146 runs scored were the most by any Dodger since the beginning of baseball’s modern era in 1900, according to MLB.com.
Among other recipients, New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto won for the sixth time and the Dodgers earned back-to-back NL Offensive Team of the Year honors. The AL winners will be announced on Friday.
