GoFundMe Raising Money for Family Struggling After Fire

Madison Heights, MI – A GoFundMe fundraiser has been established to help a Madison Heights father and his two daughters recover after a storm-related fire destroyed their garage and many of the family’s belongings.
The father, identified as Lee, is currently displaced, searching for work, and struggling to replace clothing, household necessities, tools and belongings lost in the fire.
The garage had been filled with the family’s personal belongings after new carpet was recently installed inside the home. For Lee’s daughters, Reagan and Zoey, the garage was also a place where they spent time with their father. According to the fundraiser, they played on an aerial swing and kept their bikes and toys there.
Reagan lost her bike, Power Wheels, scooter and toys. Zoey lost her favorite bow and arrow. And they are working on a complete list.
Lee lost years’ worth of tools and clothing as well as family keepsakes, including his father’s ashes and the first picture Zoey ever drew for him.
“Our entire childhood with Dad was burned away,” the girls said.
The fundraiser was organized by Katie, Lee’s girlfriend, with his permission. She said Lee was initially uncomfortable with the idea of asking for help, but reconsidered after realizing how much his daughters had lost as well.
Money raised will go toward essential clothing and personal belongings, necessary living expenses during the displacement, tools Lee needs for work and replacement belongings for Reagan and Zoey.
Insurance coverage for the family’s personal belongings has not yet been confirmed.
In addition to donations, the family is seeking offers of tools, clothing, employment leads and other useful community connections.
