A suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing a man during a dispute in Long Beach, authorities said Sunday.

Officers dispatched at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday to a report of a stabbing in the 700 block of Cherry Avenue located a man suffering from stab wounds to his upper and lower body, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

The suspect was still at the scene.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the two males were involved in a dispute that escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim,” according to a police statement. “The suspect also sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his upper and lower body.”

Both the suspect and the victim were hospitalized.

Devan Soben Titus Leang, 18, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Long Beach city jail and his bail was set at $30,000.

The investigation was ongoing.
