FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — In this episode of 26 Miles, FOX26 Host Kevin Miller visited Forestiere Underground Gardens in Fresno, listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and a California Historical Landmark.

Forestiere Underground Gardens, located on Shaw Avenue near Highway 99, was built by Baldassare Forestiere in the early 1900’s.

The entire hand-built network of underground rooms, courtyards, and passageways was dug out of unforgiving hardpan over about 40 years.

The gardens are open for guided tours Thursday through Monday and closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
