The National Weather Service says that San Diego County’s seemingly endless heat wave reached its peak on Wednesday, a moment that couldn’t come fast enough for most people.
At noon, at least 14 communities were reporting temperatures of 100 degrees or higher:
Escondido, 108; Camp Pendleton, 106; Santee, 106; Gillespie Field, 104; Fallbrook, 104; Vista, 103; Rancho Bernardo, 103; Poway, 102; Borrego Springs, 102; San Marcos, 102; Ramona, 101; Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, 101; Montgomery Field, 101; and La Mesa, 101.
Other notable highs: Brown Field, 99; Encinitas, 97; Oceanside Airport, 94; Carlsbad, 93; San Diego, 91; and Descanso, 91.
“Things are going to begin cooling off on Thursday,” said Paul Steward, a weather service forecaster. “We should get back to seasonal temperatures this weekend.
“What makes this heat so bad is the tropical moisture out there. This reminds me of when I lived in Mississippi — hot and steamy.”
