The fundraiser was planned before a deadly shooting happened on August 17 during the football game at Independence High.

The money raised was then announced to help with equipment and instruments that needed to be repaired or lost due to the incident.

Handel’s on Panama Lane offered 50% of the profits during the fundraiser for the school.

A check of $1,818.50 was presented to Independence High.

“The response was huge,” said Deanna Lewis, the franchise owner of Handel’s on Panama Lane. “It’s one thing about Bakersfield, Bakersfield shows up, supports, and loves on everyone.”

The Handel’s southwest location is at 9723 Panama Lane.
