A traffic stop in Gardena led police to recover a loaded firearm and an estimated $500,000 or more in merchandise believed to be connected to possible cargo thefts, train burglaries and counterfeit goods, according to the Gardena Police Department.
Officers stopped a Lamborghini on Sept. 4 and determined during their investigation that the driver was on probation, police said. Officers then conducted a probation search of his residence, where they recovered a loaded firearm.
The driver, who was prohibited from possessing a firearm, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm, according to police.
While searching the residence, officers discovered large quantities of clothing, footwear and other merchandise believed to be associated with possible cargo thefts, train burglaries and the distribution of counterfeit goods, police said.
Gardena police detectives obtained a search warrant for the property where they recovered merchandise with an estimated value of at least $500,000, according to the department.
The Gardena Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating and working to determine if the merchandise is connected to additional thefts or other criminal activity.
