BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 36-year-old man was charged with hit-and-run causing death in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian on South Union Avenue.
Guadalupe Garcia Hernandez is due in court Thursday and remains in custody on more than $500,000 bail, according to court and inmate records.
He’s also facing traffic infractions for driving without a license and no proof of insurance and registration, and has a pending misdemeanor drunken driving case, records show.
Police say Crystal Louise Spores, 34, was crossing outside a marked crosswalk in the 2500 block of South Union Avenue when she was hit by a vehicle headed northbound. The vehicle left the scene before officers arrived.
Spores was pronounced dead at the scene.
Video footage assisted officers in locating the vehicle on Cottonwood Road and Hernandez was arrested, according to Bakersfield Police Department. He admitted to being the driver and sole occupant when the crash occurred, police said.
