BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Fire Department, in partnership with the Bakersfield Police Department, is holding two ceremonies on Friday, September 11, 2026, as Bakersfield commemorates the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
There will be two public memorial ceremonies held at Bakersfield Fire Department Station 15, located at 1315 Buena Vista Road, Bakersfield, CA 93311.
Formal Ceremony
The Formal Ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The ceremony will provide the community a chance to get together in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, including the firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Evening Ceremony
An Evening Ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will include a special Roll Call Ceremony in conjunction with the Portrait of a Warrior Gallery, memorializing 27 local Kern County residents who were called to duty.
In a release, the Bakersfield Fire Department encourages residents, families, veterans, first responders and community organizations to join in “ensuring that the sacrifices of September 11, 2001, and those who answered the call to serve afterward are never forgotten.”
Parking
Parking and shuttle service, provided by GET Bus, will be available from The Park at River Walk area for each ceremony.
Road Closures
From 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., the following closures will be in effect:
Buena Vista Road will be closed to northbound and southbound traffic between River Run Boulevard and Ming Avenue.Deer Peak Road will be closed between Buena Vista Road and Grand Lakes Avenue.
Drivers traveling through the area are advised to use alternate routes and prepare for traffic delays.
